Magazine ad
This was an ad that I had created group magazine "Entertainment Now". This ad for the show The Walking Dead, which we was trying to promote for the readers.
Midterm Essay
“But what is the
difference between literature and journalism? .. Journalism is unreadable and
literature is not read. That is all.” – Oscar Wilde (1854-1900), The Critics as
Artist, 1891
Oscar
Wilde was an Irish writer and poet in where he became popular in the 1880s for
his plays. Wilde became a famous for his playwrights, novels, poems and also he
became a journalist. He was a biting wit, being intelligent he kept up with his
work refining ideas and having artistic ideas into his novels. In 1886-89 he
became a journalist as he enjoyed reviewing and writing about the views of art,
literature and life. The many reviews that he wrote where positive and chatty
as it suited his style. Wilde manipulated the marketplace in literature and his
own terms.
Oscar
says “But what is the difference between literature and journalism?..”
Journalism is unreadable and literature is not read. That is all”. Basically
this quote is disagreeing in the fact that Wilde was upset how everybody would
read journalism when it did not make sense that much as for literature he
thought it would be easier to read since it will stay in one subject of a
story. The fact that people did not read his stories upset him in where he
became a journalist and wrote about literature. Journalism is professionally
writing in newspapers, magazines or even broadcasting in a radio have people
read/hear about what’s going on. For journalism you cannot lie, make up a
story, plagiarizing or even change it up because there would be consequences.
As also in journalism you have to gather news and related information to give
to an audience. Otherwise literature is much different than journalism since it
can be either fiction or non-fiction. This quote is agreeable and disagreeable because
there’s so many differences between this two categories.
This is a midterm essay I had written in the middle of the year. This essay was a quote analysis of journalism about Oscar Wilde and his opinion in it.
Photography Project
This project had to be one of the funnest and interesting project, I had ever done. This project was a little sentimental because how Nachtwey photographed situations that has been happening around the world lately.
Dan Eldon Project
Many
journalists risk their lives in war zones trying to take a picture to catch the
world attention to see what’s recently going on. These journalists may seem
crazy but in reality they’re heroes. Well, I considered them as heroes because
of the way they risk their lives trying to take a close-up action picture in a
war. Sadly, Dan Eldon died at the age 22 in Mogadishu, Somalia. He was attacked
by an angry mob along with three journalists only having Shaffi being the only
survivor. Eldon left behind a series of journals in where they were published
by the Chronicle Books. Amy Eldon sister of Dan Eldon wanted to seek out what
was the cause of his death, wanting to see it for herself. She left her home
Kenya and traveled interviewing various journalists asking them of their
experience and how it felt like being in front line of a war.
Throughout
this documentary film as Amy interview a few experience journalists asking them
for what is important and their techniques that they do when in a war zone. Des
Wright and Carlos Mavrolean were one of the first journalists that Amy first
interview. They have told her that safety is the first priority for a
journalist. As also the next one was Martin Bell, he says to negotiate across
the camera. Bell says to Amy that you cannot be a coward and to not let fear
show your weakness. Bell quotes “useless as they are’ meaning that many
journalists thought that there photographs were hopeless just like the people
dying around them for example when a genocide was going on in Bosnia.
Many journalists
were treated poorly and Bell was ashamed of that. “We can’t be heroes; because
we can get out whenever” By this Bell declares that journalists and himself are
not heroes because they’ll get out of it and most of them really don’t do
anything as all they do is snap a picture and get out of the area safely.
Christiane Amanpour is women journalist that Amy had interview. Christiane tell
her “to know how to deal with energy” as you’ll need it when being a journalist
and also she says “Certain people do certain things” to survive and to capture
a picture in action. As Amy went to talk to Dan McCullen he pronounces that you
cannot hide behind a camera even closer to people, though journalists feel safe
when they’re really not since they are out in the open. McCullen tells Eldon
that when picture is captured it shows how real and hard it is to see what is
exactly going on and it takes time to process it. “Embrace scent of death” McCullen
talked about how in a war zone with all the dead bodies around all that could
be smell was death.
As Amy was in
Africa she met and interview Peter Magubane in where he was arrested for taking
a bunch of pictures of people cheering on the cause in South Africa. He stood
in jail for 586 days having a small room to sleep on and not having a sink nor
toilet. Magubane says “My camera is my mouth piece” this is a masterpiece that
Magubane had spoken to Amy. There’s a lot of meanings for this but Magubane
with the tone of voice that he had saying this, he clearly meant that a picture
speaks louder than words. As Amy went to a chapel back in England there were
lit candles representing the death and remembrance for every single journalist
who has died doing their profession in a war zone. As Amy met up with Mohamed
Shaffi being one of the only journalist that survived the attack in Somalia.
Amy tagged along with Shaffi back to Somalia to the building that her own
brother died at. As they both reached the building, Amy took a moment to look
around. She stood strong and felt relieved as she saw everything for herself.
This is an essay that I had written after watching the movie of what caused the death of Dan Eldon. His sister had interviewed many journalists asking them about their experience and if there were any techniques that they use for their survival.
New to Netflix
For December (2014)
Janelys Saez
About 36
million people have a Netflix account. With their account they get to watch TV
shows and movies. For the month of December Netflix is streaming new movies and
shows. Netflix is offering remarkable horror movies but don’t worry because so
far there’s some holiday flicks that are already available.
In the first
day of December Netflix streamed a few movies such as A Knight’s Tale (2001) which is about a man who wants to be a
knight where he draws the eye of a douchebag and a noblewoman who’s not in his
status. As also other movies has also streamed out that same day such as Almost Famous (2000), American Beauty
(1999), Bewitched (2005), Jewtopia (2012), Knights of Badassdom (2014) that
is about three friends who goes out to the woods to seek out and recreate
dungeons plus the new upcoming season for the show American Horror Story which it’s going to be added in December 6th
and many more. It’s expected that every day there would be somewhat new streaming
out, where Netflix members are excited to see.
This was part for my group magazine. Our magazine was titled as "Entertainment Now", having articles talking about TV shows and movies.

2015 Upcoming Movies
Janelys Saez
Within the new upcoming year new movies will come out as usual. So
far, there’s 160 movies that are coming out and there’s 36 movies to be
announced soon in the year of 2015. Expecting another year of movies of sequels
including: Insidious Chapter 3, Jurassic World, Fast and Furious 7, Mission:
Impossible V, Ted 2, The Bourne Identity 5, The Smurfs 3, James Bond 24,
Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension and many more.
There’s has been some rumors on how Friday the 13th may be coming out in March 13, 2015. But
no official title, cast or crew has been announced as also Hollywood producers
has not announced that this movie may come out but for now it’s a rumor. But if
this upcoming movie does come out it says that the movie may not follow the
story but it will have a different story of its own. Previously the Insidious movies have always been released in the softer times of
the year. But now the new future movies like Insidious: Chapter 3 is now been given the daring summer release
date by Focus Features and Warner Bros. Insidious:
Chapter 3 was intentional to be released in May but it was pushed back to
June 5th 2015. This movie is the prequel to the two previous movies Insidious and Insidious Chapter 2, the first movie trailer was just recently
released and so far it looks like that the horror fans are up to it. As
obviously Fast and Furious 7 is coming soon next year on April 4, 2014. Universal
states that it’s hard to continue the movie because of the tragic death of one
of the cast members Paul Walker. Universal states that the character “Brian
O’Connor will get a happier ending than Paul Walker, instead of killing him they will make him
retire”. As also the up-to-date rumors are that Paul Walker’s little brother
Cody Walker will be playing a few stunts for Brian. Plus it says that Brian and
Mia will have a happy ending where they’ll send them with their son in a safe
place. Supporters will get to see the last of Walker’s unbelievable career.
Overall 2015 is filled with great
movies to watch with friends and family members.
Another article written by me for the school's newspaper. This article was put in the section of entertainment to students who would love to know what movies would be arriving soon to theaters.
An Insider’s Guide
to Surviving SOTA
By Janelys Saez
Have you seen those short little kids who might stumble into
you in the hall or who you’ll see running to their classes? Well here’s an
insider guide to all new comers and new 7th graders. First of all is
to not be nervous. Of course everybody was probably nervous on their first day
of middle school. Now it’s always good to not be shy. For example, if you want
to talk to someone just go for it and talk to them. It’s not like they’ll bite
you.
Please do not
procrastinate. It’s always good to do your work early and to turn in early as
well. Also you can go in and get extra help from your teachers if there’s time,
but if not, you can always stay after school. They’ll be glad to help you out.
For quizzes and tests you can do note cards. Trust me they help a lot.
Try not get into dramas, back stab someone, talk behind people
back or get into fights. It’s hard to make friends, but it’s easy to ruin a
friendship. Try not to be fake, just be the real you. Do your work. It may seem hard but trust me it’s for your
own benefit. Please don’t even try to be a trouble maker. Be on your teacher’s
good side. Try to make a friend in every of classes because then you’ll feel
lonely. Go to sleep on a reasonable time. Eat breakfast every morning so that
your stomach won’t be growling in your classes. Stay organized and try not to
let people borrow your pencils, highlighters, pens etc... Because trust me
sometimes they won’t give them back to you. But it’s also good to be nice once
in a while. Warning: Now if you have gum, be prepared to get mobbed. School of
the Arts may be hard but trust me it’s for your own benefit and it’ll get
better. Don’t be alarmed when you see a mohawk
guy with gauges wearing vans skating down the hall its just Tillotson. But be
panicked when there’s a short little lady who’s chasing you down the hallway
that’s Aspenleiter and she may tell you to go and change. And also if you give
her an attitude telling that “No the skirt is not short” or “I’m not ‘bout to
change” because trust me she’ll suspend you and make you go to Saturday school
which we all hate. Be extra careful with your electronics. Over the summer
every teacher was emailed asking them what was the most problem of students and
of course they cellphones. Most likely the teachers dislike us and they want us
to suffer. As always they’ll call the floor office which will call Aspenleiter.
It’s funny how now Aspenleiter will take your cellphone and she’ll have it for
the rest of the week making you serve Saturday school detention as also making
your parents coming to pick up your cellphone.
Overall, there is a lot to
know about the School of the Arts, and with this advice column, we make it a
little easier to handle.
This was an advice column for the school's newspaper in September. This article was written mostly for 7th graders or others who were new to the school.
